throughout the years...
I just returned from vacation, and now it is time to plan our next Youth Group event. As you know, our motto is “Making A Difference”, and we do that by getting involved in projects each month to serve the needy. That is the kind of activity Jesus expects of us, if we truly want to be His followers!
Our next project will be our annual trip to St. James Parish (29th and Wabash) to pass out food to the hungry. We will be going there on Saturday, November 10th. Joining us again will be teens and adults from Nativity of our Lord. It is exciting to see people from both parishes coming together to assist the poor! Here are the details. We need to arrive there at 8:00 a.m., so I am asking everyone who is going, to meet in the school hall at 7:30 a.m. We will take attendance, give final instructions, and then go in car pools driven by your parents. We will help to unload the large food truck, and will be assigned various tasks. Many of you will be distributing food to the hungry. Others will carry food for the needy visitors. We could use some of your parents to drive to and from St. James – it is only about a ten minute drive. If one of your parents can drive, please let me know in advance how many they could drive. The event is usually finished by around 11 a.m. The event will take place outside, so please dress warmly (November can be cold in Chicago!) We have always had a wonderful turnout, and it is a spiritually “moving” experience for those who volunteer. Adults are also encouraged to participate! Please spread the word! St. James does not limit the number of volunteers we bring. Hope to see you there! Always remember the words of Jesus – “As long as you did it (feeding the hungry) to one of the least of my brothers and sisters, you did it to me.”
If you know of someone who wants to join our Youth Group, just let me know, or simply bring them with you on November 10th. The group is open to anyone in grades 8-12. If you ever need to talk with me about any problems you are experiencing, please contact me. Also, if you need any letters of recommendation, please feel free to use me for a reference. My phone at the rectory is 773-268-9595.
Thanks for everything, and for your wonderful participation in the Youth Group!
