• Hi!
  • Students From St. Gabriel Catholic School and Bridgeport Catholic Academy Visit Shrine of Christ’s Passion

On Thursday, Sept. 27th, 34 8th grade students from Bridgeport Catholic Academy and St. Gabriel Catholic School travelled on a pilgrimage to the Shrine of Christ’s Passion in St. John, Indiana. The Shrine is an interactive half-mile winding pathway that begins with the Last Supper and Garden of Gethsemane. We then experienced the passion of Christ by walking and praying at all of the outdoor Stations of the Cross. Our tour was led by Phil and Liz Carr. Phil grew up in Canaryville, and was a member of St. Gabriel Parish! He and his wife retired to Indiana, and do a great job with this ministry. This is the first time our two schools have joined together for a religious experience like this, and all who participated were “deeply moved” by this prayerful experience! Afterwards, we took a tour of the beautiful St. John Catholic Church, which sits majestically on a high hill, overlooking the Shrine grounds. It is truly one of the most outstanding Catholic Churches that has been built in recent years! Two of their gorgeous glass windows portray St. John Paul II and St. Mother Teresa of Calcutta.

I wasn’t able to download the pictures from the trip  to my computer, but we will be working on that tomorrow, and if we are successful, I will send you some pictures. I was very proud of the students from both schools today!
We do not have a youth group event planned for October, because I will be on vacation for two weeks, but I want all of you to put Saturday, November 10th on your calendars. That will be our annual visit to St. James Parish (29th and Wabash) to help pass out food to the needy. It is usually our best attended-event of the year. All adults are welcome to join us. Teens from Bridgeport Catholic Academy will be with us, too! We will meet that morning at 7:30 a.m. in the school hall, and then drive to the site in cars driven by parents. I know I will need a number of parents to drive, so please ask your parents if they can drive. Generally, we are finished before 11:30 a.m. Please spread the word and invite your friends. Let everyone know that we are a parish that loves to help the needy! I am so very proud of all the members of our Youth group for your commitment to serving others! If you ever need my assistance in any way, or just want to talk, just let me know.
