Hi everyone!
First of all, I’d like to welcome the 7th graders from St. Gabriel School, as well as from CCD, to our Youth Group! The Youth Group has been in existence for ten years, and our motto is “Making A Difference”. We try to follow in the footsteps of Jesus, and do what He did – which was to serve the needs of others. We generally do service projects that help to put our faith into action. Our last service project of the year is happening on Saturday, March 24th – we are sponsoring our annual Blood Drive in the School Hall from 8:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. I will be passing out flyers about this event to the 7th and 8th graders today, and asking them to put them in the mailboxes throughout Canaryville during the next few days. I need Youth Group members to sign up to help out at the Blood Drive. If you are interested in helping out, or just want to observe, please let me know. I will probably be assigning teens to two-hour shifts. I have a need for some teens to arrive at 7:00 a.m., so they can help set up the hall the way the LifeSource workers want it to look. I also am requesting you to ask your family members and relatives (ages 16 or older) to sign up for an appointment time to donate blood. If they want an appointment time, they can call the rectory (773-268-9595). Walk-ins are also accepted on that day.

Also, the Youth Group has volunteered for many years to kneel before the Blessed Sacrament in Church after the 7:00 p.m. Mass on Holy Thursday. We will be doing that again this year. The date for Holy Thursday this year is March 29th. The teens kneel for one half hour segments from around 8:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. If you would like to commit to helping out with this, please e-mail me. it is a spiritually powerful experience to pray before the Blessed Sacrament! Also, there is a tradition on that night that Catholics from the Chicago area visit other Catholic Churches. Our Church is beautifully decorated for that night, and people enjoy visiting us!

I have written a number of letters of recommendations for many of you in recent months. If you ever need one, just let me know.

God bless everyone in our Youth Group for the great year we have had!

Fr. Rich
